HUGG Support Groups: Suicide Bereavement Peer Support Benefits and Observations

It was an inspiring day of connection, learning, and collaboration. Our presence at the National Bereavement Forum underscores our commitment to advancing compassionate suicide bereavement support nationwide.
A Unified Effort for Grief Support
The National Bereavement Forum 2025 served as a vital platform. It fostered discussions around the provision of bereavement support across Ireland. Attendees shared insights and learned from diverse perspectives. The atmosphere was one of shared purpose. Everyone aimed to enhance care for grieving individuals.
HUGG’s Voice: The Unique Value of Peer Support
Marie McKeon, our HUGG Groups Manager, had the honour of presenting at the forum. She shared the profound impact of our peer support groups for people bereaved by suicide. Marie highlighted the unique value of lived experience. She explained how HUGG groups offer a safe, compassionate space where individuals find connection and hope. The presentation was very well received.
Advancing National Bereavement Frameworks
The Irish Hospice Foundation (IHF) hosted this significant gathering. They championed bereavement support nationwide. A key highlight of the forum was the launch of their BSCC Framework and eLearning – Level 2. This framework aims to further discussions and improve the provision of bereavement support across Ireland. HUGG’s work aligns closely with these national efforts. We strive to ensure timely and appropriate support for everyone impacted by suicide loss.
Looking Forward: Continued Collaboration
We extend our huge thanks to the Irish Hospice Foundation for hosting such an important and inspiring event. Our participation at the at the National Bereavement Forum 2025 reinforced the power of collaboration. It also highlighted the critical role of peer support.
