Established in 2018, HUGG stands as Ireland’s only national organisation providing suicide-specific bereavement support. We offer a crucial lifeline through unique peer support groups, a dedicated telephone support line, an informative website, vital research, and impactful advocacy and educational work. Our work helps individuals navigate the complex journey of grief after suicide.

The Role of Company Secretary at HUGG

The Company Secretary provides essential legal and administrative support to our Board of Trustees. If you have experience in this area, and a passion for our cause, we would be keen to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Strategic Input: Contribute to HUGG’s strategic direction. Offer insights, oversight, and experience in strategy formulation from other sectors.
  • Compliance: Ensure HUGG complies with all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Administrative Oversight: Manage administrative duties. This includes taking agenda items, preparing, and circulating meeting agendas and papers.
  • Decision Follow-up: Follow up on decisions made at Board meetings, in consultation with the Chairperson.
  • Minute Taking: Take accurate Minutes at Board meetings. Ensure these are managed securely and circulated to Board members promptly.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain up-to-date membership records.

Who We Are Looking For

We seek an individual with a strong appreciation and knowledge of the Not-For-Profit sector. You must also demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to HUGG’s mission and values.

Essential Skills & Qualities:

  • Commitment to all legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory obligations.
  • Ensuring best practice in corporate governance.

We are particularly interested in candidates with a background in the health sector. Relevant experience in one or more of the following areas is also highly valued:

  • Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) at the national level.
  • Public Sector Organisations.
  • The Governance or Legal sector.

Board Meetings & Application Details

Our Board holds eight meetings a year. These take place either online or in person. Committee meetings or working groups are scheduled as needed, offering flexibility.
