At HUGG, we are proud to see our volunteers sharing their voices to raise awareness for suicide bereavement support. In the latest episode of the Sligo Community Voices Podcast, our Sligo-based volunteer, Alan, sat down with host Val Robus for a deeply personal and informative interview.
Alan lost his son, Conor, in 2019. In this 19-minute feature, he discusses the reality of suicide loss and how peer-led support provides a unique lifeline for those navigating the most difficult days of their lives.
Lived Experience in Sligo
During the conversation, Alan highlights why local support is so vital. As a facilitator for HUGG Sligo, he sees firsthand the impact of bringing people together who “just get it.”
Key topics covered in the interview include:
-
The Power of Peer Support: Moving beyond the stigma to find a community of understanding.
-
Alan’s Personal Journey: How his experience with his son Conor led him to support others.
-
Accessing HUGG Services: Information on our support groups, resources, and how the Sligo community can get involved.
A Voice for the Community
HUGG is a volunteer-led charity, and it is because of people like Alan that we can offer this specific type of support.
