Irish Steel Donates €11,500 to HUGG: A Partnership Bringing Hope After Suicide Loss
We are deeply grateful to announce that Irish Steel has once again chosen HUGG as their charity partner. At their recent Irish Steel Awards 2025, the company made an incredible donation of €11,500, solidifying a partnership that is now in its second year.
This generous contribution will help bolster HUGG’s mission to provide vital support and connection for those bereaved by suicide.
Why This Partnership Matters
Irish Steel’s decision to align with HUGG is driven by a shared commitment to supporting mental health and well-being, particularly within their industry and community.
Suicide bereavement is a critical and often unspoken issue in the steel and construction sectors. Mental health challenges frequently go unaddressed. By partnering with HUGG, Irish Steel is taking a powerful step to raise awareness and ensure that no one in their community, or the wider country, has to face the devastation of suicide loss alone.
A Message of Courage and Hope
A highlight of the Irish Steel Awards was the moving address by Gerry Behan, one of our incredible HUGG volunteers from Tallaght. Gerry embodies courage and compassion; despite the personal tragedy of losing his mother, sister, cousin, and nephew to suicide, he gives his time to supporting others through volunteering a group facilitator at our suicide bereavement support group in Tallaght.
Gerry shared a powerful message and we’d like to pass it on to you:
If you carry one thing throughout your life, Let it be HOPE.
Let it be HOPE that better things are ALWAYS ahead.
Let it be HOPE that you can get through even the toughest of times.
Let it be HOPE that you are stronger than any challenges that come your way.
Let it be HOPE that you are on the path to where you are meant to be.
Because during these times, HOPE will be the very thing that carries you through.
LET IT BE HOPE.
This partnership helps us bring the message of hope and connection after suicide to more people across Ireland.
