Lorcan Fisher’s brother, Cathal, died by suicide in 2023. Lorcan knows how important it is for men to talk about their mental health. In 2022, he and a few friends started up a local get-together for men called ‘Walk & Talk’, an opportunity for the lads to meet up, get some exercise and, importantly, make connections and talk.

This year, he and five of his friends have decided to give themselves a bigger challenge.  Over 48 hours, they are going to climb the four highest peaks in Ireland and finish this off with a marathon in Dundalk.  Not only do they want to continue the conversation about men’s mental health, but they want to expand that conversation to talk about suicide bereavement while raising money for HUGG.

They are off to a great start with their training, and they are getting lots of media coverage to raise awareness of our suicide bereavement support services and to let men know it’s good to talk.

They featured in Dundalk Democrat and you can read the full article here: https://www.dundalkdemocrat.ie/news/home/1415276/five-dundalk-men-preparing-to-conquer-the-hills-for-hugg.html
