February holds a special place in HUGG’s story.
It marks the anniversary of our charity, founded by Fiona Tuomey after the devastating loss of her 11-year-old daughter, Milly, to suicide. Established on February 10th, 2018—Milly’s birthday—HUGG has been providing vital support to those navigating the unimaginable pain of losing a loved one to suicide.
This February, Milly would have turned 21.
In her memory, we aim to raise €21,000 to support HUGG’s vital mission. Join us in honouring her legacy by taking part in our HUGG in a Mug fundraiser.
What Is a HUGG in a Mug Moment?
HUGG in a Mug is more than just a fundraiser; it’s an invitation to bring people together. By hosting a coffee morning, tea party, or any kind of gathering over a warm beverage, you can create a space where conversations flow, stories are shared, and connections are strengthened. Whether it’s a small gathering with family and friends, a workplace coffee break, or a community event, every cup poured helps us pour more support into the lives of those who need it most. Why HUGG in a Mug Matters
Every year, hundreds of families in Ireland are devastated by the loss of a loved one to suicide. The aftermath of such a tragedy can leave those left behind feeling isolated, confused, and overwhelmed. HUGG’s postvention services are a lifeline for these individuals, offering comfort and understanding from others who have walked a similar path.
By participating, you’re helping to ensure that no one has to face the journey of suicide bereavement alone.

The Impact of Your Support
By hosting a HUGG in a Mug event, you’re directly contributing to:
- Expanding Our Services: Your support helps us sustain and grow our support groups, ensuring they are accessible to individuals across the country. In 2025, HUGG is already launching two new groups: HUGG Sligo and HUGG Kilkenny.
- Keeping the lines open: Our telephone support line offers a compassionate listening ear to those who are grieving the loss of a loved one to suicide. They also provide signposting information to direct people to additional support services.
- Training Volunteers: Our dedicated volunteers, all of whom have lived experience of suicide bereavement, receive ongoing training to provide compassionate and effective support.
- Raising Awareness: Your event helps spark conversations about suicide bereavement, reducing stigma and encouraging more people to seek the help they need.
Real Stories, Real Impact
HUGG’s services have made a real difference in the lives of many, including, Gillian:
“I lost my dad to suicide. It’s a complicated, difficult and lonely grief but I’ve found a lovely path toward healing through HUGG.”
By supporting HUGG in a Mug, you’re helping us reach more individuals like Gillian, ensuring they have access to the support and understanding they need.
